Disney writers always do an impeccable job of character development. So, when faced with the ultimate challenge of picking the best Disney characters of all time, how could we perfectly and fairly complete that challenge?
Well, have no fear, we have achieved the impossible. Here are the best Disney characters of all time:
Megara | Hercules
We love a strong, female lead and Megara is just that. She’s sort of the opposite of the traditional Disney female character-- she’s sarcastic, quick-witted and a bit (okay, a lot) cynical. She has a murky past when it comes to her love life, so now she’s an independent woman who doesn’t need a man. Typically in Disney films, if a female isn’t a princess, she is only a mere love interest to a man. While Meg does fall in love with Hercules, there is still so much more to her-- we’d even go as far as to classify her as a heroine in this film. Meg is the free-spirited female lead that we need.
Dory | Finding Nemo
She’s funny, playful and warm-hearted-- yep, we’re talking about our favorite forgetful fish, Dory.
First off, we would love to be friends with Dory because she is always up for a spontaneous adventure. She’s the ultimate travel companion, even though she will probably get you very lost from time to time. But go easy on her since it’s not exactly her fault! Plus, it’s all about the journey, not the destination, right? Dory makes friends everywhere she goes and has a heart of gold. She is the ultimate best friend.
Miguel | Coco
We love Miguel for his loyalty. But his loyalty is put to the ultimate test when forced to choose between his family or his love of music, he decides to have his cake and eat it, too. Which we think is pretty awesome. “Why not have both?” he thinks, and eventually persuades his family of. Miguel may be young, and oftentimes overlooked because of it, but he is a force to be reckoned with-- and a kind one, at that.
Kuzco | The Emperor’s New Groove
Coming from perhaps one of the more underrated Disney movies, Kuzco had to make our list. We know, we know. Kuzco isn’t exactly the most stand up citizen. But let us explain. Sure, he’s arrogant and self-centered… WE KNOW. But there truly are few things more funny than Kuzco as a llama. While it’s a rocky journey for Kuzco, we see so much growth in his character as he’s faced with a really relatable challenge-- being turned into a llama. Kuzco is absolutely ridiculous, but ever so amusing.
Olaf | Frozen
Olaf is such a pure soul. This adorable, child-like snowman is the comic relief that we need when watching Frozen. He’s optimistic, outgoing and always has Anna and Elsa’s backs. Sometimes too naive and kind for his own good, Olaf frequently puts himself into harmful situations for the sake of helping those he cares about. So as long as no one is taking advantage of him, he’ll be just fine. Olaf is the type of friend that we all need.
The Genie | Aladdin
The Genie just may be so lovable because of who is behind the voice (shoutout to Robin Williams). He is comical, full of energy and a bit boisterous. He was trapped in a lamp for many years, so to us, it seems like his huge personality is making up for lost time-- but we’re not mad at it! We’re actually amused by Genie’s energy and excitement for the world around him. He’s the life of the party, which might be why Aladdin decided to free him?
Mulan | Mulan
Mulan is certainly one of our favorite Disney princesses. Much like Megara, she is a strong female lead but she is also driven and disciplined like no other. Mulan only follows the rules when she feels that they are justified, but when they’re not, she’ll break them without hesitation. She is resourceful and a little bit sneaky, but ultimately uses those qualities for good. If everyone was as disciplined as Mulan, donut shops would go out of business.
With so many characters to love, it’s difficult to narrow down the best ones. But when it comes down to it, we love a character who is multidimensional. Each one of these characters has many strengths and weaknesses, but we love them all the same. Dory is unconditionally loyal, kind and inclusive; Genie is hilarious, lively and energetic. While all different, these qualities make them easy to love.

The new live-action Aladdin film will finally be released at the end of this month and we couldn’t be more excited!
But let us not forget the original characters who paved way to create this new and upcoming motion picture.
Disney women are strong, and have taken the term ‘Girl Power’ to a whole 'nother level.
We’re talking about the Disney women who have inspired us by demonstrating bravery, following their hearts, breaking boundaries, and not settling for anything!
