This original hand-inked and -painted full-figure animation cel of José Carioca was created in the Disney ink-and-paint department and photographed during the making of the animated and live-action feature. In this splendid film Donald Duck's introduction to the colors and rhythms of Brazil comes via this friendly and lively native parrot, José Carioca, who in his first lines in English says: "as you Americans say, 'Let's go see the town'."

In the Aquarela do Brasil segment José leads Donald through a lush landscape to a sidewalk cafe. This cel appears as José and Donald walk down stairs that are painted one-step-at-a-time by an artist's brush. All the while is heard the wonderful title song by Ary Barroso, sung by Aloysio Oliveria, and "Tico Tico No Fuba" (Samba) by Zequinha de Abreu. José Oliveira is the voice of José Carioca.

This cel was released by Disney for sale through Courvoisier Galleries of San Francisco at the time of the film's release. It was laminated and set over this painted background that was created by a Courvoisier artist. "WDP" monogram stamp appears at lower right on the front and "Copyright Walt Disney Productions / All Rights Reserved" on the back. Courvoisier was Disney's agent for the sale of production art from 1937 to 1945.
