This original hand-painted animation cel of Mickey Mouse was created in the Disney ink-and-paint department and photographed during the making of the animated featurette. Mickey Mouse plays both title roles in this film based on the classic story by Mark Twain. The cast includes Donald Duck, Pete, Pluto, Goofy, Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow. This cel appears in the film as pauper Mickey, in the role of the prince, kneels beside the bed of the gravely-ill king to hear his final words of advice: "rule the land...justly and wisely."
The cel was selected and prepared by Disney as part of its art program; it is set over a color print of the matching background from the film, The Walt Disney Company seal is on the cel at lower right, and Disney's 8.5" x 11" Certificate of Authenticity is included. It was handsomely matted and framed by Disney. The cel number undoubtedly appears at lower right on the cel sheet.
